Overview

Gunung Gading is gazetted as a national park in the year of 1983 and is opened to public in 1993. The main attraction of Gunung Gading National Park is undoubtedly the Rafflesia flower, the largest flower in the world. Therefore, it is a must to have a sight of the blooming of the Rafflesia flower. Unfortunately, this special plant blooms with very short period and is very infrequent. Fret not, as you can check with Park Headquarters before you plan your trip. Apart from the amazing Rafflesia, the national park offers a lot more interesting features. It has amazing waterfalls, spectacular scenery, treks and trails as well as the wildlife

One of the trails leads you to the summit of Gunung Gading which is at a height of 906 meters. Beautiful beaches of Pandan and Siar can be seen and view on the summit. A 20 minutes taxi ride can get you to the undeveloped beaches from the national park. It is interesting that you can actually go hike with your own group without any tour guide. Of course, guided tour is available too with affordable fees. Accommodation in the national park would not be a problem as wide options are offered. Remember to book your room in advanced through the Sarawak Forestry Office in Kuching as they have to issue a permit for you to overnight there. The forest hostel offered has longhouse style units, lodge house and official camp site according to your own preference.

If you do not want to overnight in the park itself, there is a guest house located in Lundu town with a 30 minutes' walk from the park. Noted that there is no food available in the park, and so, go shopping for grocery or can food before you walk into the park. However, the cabins rented are all well equipped with cooking utensils and fridge.
